What You Need To Know Before You Adopt A Poodle

There are several things to keep in mind before you adopt a Poodle. Did you know there are several different sizes of poodles? .

Large Poodles are above 45 cm and up to 60 cm.

Medium Poodles are more than 35 cm up to 45 cm.

Miniature Poodles are more than 28 cm up to 35 cm.

Toy Poodles are below 28 cm, with the ideal size of 25 cm.

Poodles do come in a variety of sizes and it’s not unheard of to strike up a conversation with someone, as their Toy Poodle, looks bigger. It’s not uncommon for a labeled Poodle to vary within 2 cm of their height and still be labeled as a particular type.

Before you adopt a Poodle of any type ask yourself if you have the time and money to care for one. These are dogs that do need to be groomed regularly. It’s not uncommon for a Poodle to have scheduled visits on a bi-monthly basis at a professional groomer’s office.

If you live in an apartment, you may want to consider a Miniature or Toy, as they do like to run and play ball. When they have smaller spaces to play in they tend to get wound up and family life with your adopted dog can be challenging. Standard Sized Poodles enjoy hunting and the great outdoors, so plan accordingly.

Kids of all ages enjoy Poodles. It’s important to keep in mind that they enjoy kids, but they like to grow up with them. If you are a family without kids, an older Poodle would be an ideal fit. Families with kids will want to find one that will grow up with their family.

A great resource would be your local animal shelter when it comes to adopting any dog. The folks that work in these wonderful facilities develop relationships with the dogs that come through their doors.
